Outreach
Brooklin United Church is committed to a ministry of service as Outreach.
We make regular contributions to The United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund which contributes support to local, national, and global mission partners.
We make our building available to the community – Horticultural Society, Karate Club, Guides & Scouts, Town of Whitby events, etc.
For a number of years, BUC has been part of “Bridge to a New Home”, a multi-church working group sponsoring refugee families. Three families have come to live in Canada and 11 adults and children have had their lives changed forever.
Every Christmas, we participate with Social Services and Durham Aids in a Hamper Program.
Every family receives food, gift cards, and some treats.
Ongoing support of the local food bank is part of our regular activity.
We participate in community events and hold dinners, luncheons, family nights and euchre parties that are open to everyone.
Our Community
We have many opportunities for friendship and for community involvement. Whether over coffee after the Sunday service, at one of our many social activities or helping out in our community, we understand that friendship is important and want you to feel a part of our family.
BUC Book Club
The BUC Book Club meets at the church on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at the church to discuss a variety of books in a friendly, small group setting. All are welcome to attend, even if you haven’t read the book!
Music Program
ADULT CHOIR
Brooklin United has a vibrant music program, with opportunities for people of all ages and led by Daisy Rho, our Adult choir rehearses on Sunday morning at 9:30 am September through early June. Our wonderful choir continually enjoy performing a mix of traditional and contemporary music. We welcome all who are interested in joining our musical team.
PRAISE BAND
Our contemporary musical group is the Praise Band which sings regularly before and during worship services. Adults and youth are most welcome to bring their own instrument and voice to these “jam sessions”.
United Church Women
Brooklin United Church Women meet for tea occasionally. We continue to be an active group, expressing our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian Witness, on committees in our church, and volunteering in organizations in the community. The majority of our funds are used to support the work of our church.
